Police fight against obesity
Obesity is more of a disease than a condition. Increasing in industrialized countries, excess body fat in individuals affects many populations, including the police!
The problem is such that in some countries, more and more police officers find it difficult to pass the physical tests imposed on them. To combat this, the latest event was initiated by the Indonesian police. The latter has launched a vast program of physical exercise, with the aim of making its peace officers lose weight! But others are following the movement, like the Russian, Mexican, Pakistani and Ugandan police.
It was the police in Tangerang, Indonesia, who initiated this movement. It is a city close to the capital (Jakarta). Wahyu Widada, Chief of Police of Tangerang commented on this decision by indicating that the physical form was necessary within the framework of the missions of the forces of order. Of 1,473 police officers in this city, 132 were considered overweight, or nearly 9% of the workforce. These individuals must therefore now take part, on a weekly basis, in four and a half hours of physical exercise. When their corpulence returns to normal, then they can leave the program.
Because even if some causes of obesity are of genetic or drug origin, the metabolic causes are often the first advances: the individual does not expend as much fat as normal. One of the main causes of obesity in our societies remains dietary habits, which must be reviewed in depth. In addition to reduced physical activity, meals are disordered, snacking is ubiquitous, energy-dense products are sold and attract the majority of consumers. Our societies represent continuous inflows of stress, which many fill with food.
These societies that stress and fatten us have created phenomena such that police officers in several countries are now on a diet! Russia, Mexico or even Pakistan have put their police forces on a diet, as we said at the beginning of the article. Russia had already hardened its physical tests, some time ago, in order to announce loud and clear that the obese were a real problem in this function which is the maintenance of order; Russia had then said “the fat and paunchy will not succeed”. In Indonesia police have been found unable to catch criminals because of their overweight. The nations of the world have declared war on grease in their fonts.
Nevertheless, even if these actions against the kilos can make people smile, we must not forget that we are talking about a serious and sensitive subject: obesity continues to gain ground with always dangerous consequences for individuals ( cardiovascular disease, diabetes, respiratory and joint complications, etc.).
A solution to fight: pay attention to your eating habits, and consult a specialist if ever the origin of this excess weight is more complex than “junk food”. Following the example of the world’s police, let’s pay attention to our corpulence! Let’s monitor it with, for example, the Body Mass Index.
