The link between the new Coca-Cola Life (with Stevia) and Obesity

The global and famous brand The Coca-Cola Company has recently launched on the market a Coca-Cola with stevia, called “  Coca-Cola Life ”. The red color distinguishing the bottle label has been swapped for a green color , a subtle link with this new “natural” concept. If this atypical name is not familiar to you, it is because its launch took place in Argentina only. For the moment, it is not expected that this new Coca Cola will be marketed in other countries.

The purpose and particularities of Stevia

The main goal of the brand is the lower calorie intake than the original drink. Indeed, it has been recognized for a number of years that a glass of the latter is equivalent to an average of seven sugars, an excessive intake whose effects are harmful to health during long-term consumption, such as c This is all too often the case in the United States (for example, but not only).

If currently Argentina remains the only country with this new Coca-Cola, it is because on the one hand stevia is grown mainly in Paraguay, in South America, but also because obesity has become a very worrying in this part of the world.

The stevia plant ( see source at the bottom of the page ) is a natural sweetener which is similar to aspartame thanks to its sweet aspect, from which the calories are removed . With this new Coca-Cola, the energy intake would be 36 calories for 33 cl, or a glass, while the classic drink contains 140 calories. This advantage makes it possible to hope for a decrease in obesity, a scourge in Latin America.
