The march against overweight and obesity, in 2014, by Jean-Luc Loiseau

A quick reminder…

According to 2013 statistics from the WHO (World Health Organization), there are 1.4 billion adults in the world who are overweight (BMI greater than 25). These extra pounds, as we repeat in each article, are obviously a real public health problem: the cause of 2.8 million deaths each year (source: World Health Organization, see end of article).

Foreword on Jean-Luc Loiseau

Jean-Luc Loiseau was a victim of morbid obesity (BMI greater than 40, he weighed more than 200 kg): he is now trying to share his experience and his fight against obesity by launching a project to walk against obesity. obesity. This project aims to take a new look at obese people and to provide answers to this subject while sharing a personal experience.

Jean-Luc Loiseau, 47-year-old computer sales executive, was a sporty teenager, but he fell into the stressful spiral of work to find himself prisoner of the gradually installed kilos until he reached 211 kg in 2011.

The project itself

Following two heavy surgeries, Jean-Luc Loiseau decided to take charge. Thus was born in him the desire to fight obesity through walking. Today, he weighs 125 kilos and his fight is still ongoing to regain a healthy and normal life. But above all, he wants to train as many participants as possible in this fight, by organizing a tour of France on foot in order to promote exchange and social diversity . The idea is to help people in difficulty, who often need a conscience awakener to move forward , and allow them to go beyond the doctor-patient relationship to meet other people suffering from the same pathology.

The project also aims to demonstrate that obesity is not an obstacle to sporting activity: it is possible to be both obese and active at the same time.

Jean-Luc Loiseau would also like to send back an image of France in motion, and show that the difference does not lie in the physical aspect, but in the measures that everyone decides to take to remedy their difference.

This initiative will make it possible to reconcile the participants with the daily walk and will lead, according to him, to a chemical change of a physical and psychic order, citing that it is both a personal challenge and a shared experience which will allow everyone to tap into of oneself to move forward.

On the program of this tour of France, scheduled for May 25, 2014 ; 1000 km to cross on foot from Paris, divided into 50 stages of 20 km.

Meetings will be organized throughout the course, in the presence of qualified specialists, doctors, athletes and psychologists in order to better understand this scourge and to establish an interesting and enriching dialogue between participants and professionals.
