European Obesity Day

While genetic diseases, viruses and cancers multiply, anorexia, obesity and bulimia continue to develop and affect more and more people, regardless of age, social category and situation. (1) .

However, many actions have been carried out: an increase in professions relating to the well-being of individuals, centers dedicated to these diseases, cures offered to suffering people, but also an incentive to rebalance one’s way of life through advertising and audiovisual campaigns. . The future European Obesity Day is also part of this approach.

Purpose of European Obesity Day

What to eat and when? How much and for whom? Proteins or lipids? Questions that most people ask themselves and unless followed by a specialist or a dietician, these questions too often remain unanswered .

Faced with illnesses relating to lifestyle and diet, the European Health and Environment Commission is proposing a day dedicated to these illnesses . This is the European Day of Obesity, the next is announced for May 23, 2014. This event calls doctors, specialists and dietitians but especially patients from all around.

Propelled by the European Health and Environment Commission, European Obesity Day (2) is a day dedicated to food, nutrition, excess weight and lifestyle.

This meeting day has taken place every year for the past 4 years in each of the member countries of the European Union. As far as our Hexagon is concerned, the National Collective of Obese Associations (CNAO) has been appointed coordinator of this day.

During this day, in addition to the brochures and information that will be distributed, conferences and workshops will take place to raise awareness among parents and children. Active and fun stands and workshops will give you the keys to a healthy life. Proteins or lipids, ham or fish? Professionals will be able to guide you during this day.

At Pitié-Salpêtrière, the Specialized and Integrated Obesity Center will offer an information and dietetics stand, a therapeutic cooking session and a bungee exercise workshop.

There will also be a chewing workshop, a vitamin stand and a sports education session at the Louis Mourier Hospital.

For high school students studying in Seine et Marne at Bussy Saint Georges, a nurse will raise awareness about the role of food and nutrition.

Finally, professionals present on the day will be able to communicate and talk to people who wish to do so and will be able to offer suitable solutions: care for the hygiene of life, return to fresh products and vitamins, consumption of cereals, usefulness of herbal teas and verbenas, role of active and sporting activity…
