Weight Loss: Low-Income Households and Short-Term Strategies

Overweight and low-income people adopt a solution that is not necessarily the right one. What for? Because wanting to lose weightin the short termmay have a result contrary to the desired effect. So it becomes a disadvantage rather than an advantage.

The different strategies put in place by households

Is there really a relationship between income and weight loss? Yes, and it is that a study in the United States tried to explain. In order to better understand, the survey was carried out on 3250 people aged 8 to 19 years and 6035 volunteers, whose adult age (20 years) was reached or even exceeded.

Income was also divided into four categories, those under $ 20,000 (per year, or about € 17500), income between 20000 and 44999 or between 45000 and 74999 and those whose income is greater than $ 75,000 (about € 65,000). Regardless of the slice, at least once in their lives, participants tried to lose weight. So what about it?

The analysis procedure and results

At the beginning of this operation, a questionnaire was distributed to each patient, offering them various solutions to lose weight. Patients had to choose between some of the proposed solutions. No details were given about the different strategies: exercise, drink a lot, eat foods high in energy or not, saturated with sugar and fat, etc. Possible solutions also included skipping meals, taking weight loss medications, using dietetic diets or even laxatives. Everyone had to choose according to their income and their way of life.

People with the lowest incomes were more likely to act quicklyrather than correctly. As a result, it was easier for themto skip a meal, rather than lean towards a more effective idea in the long term by selecting solutions with more constraints (financial, etc.).

In conclusion

“Fast and well” don’t go together, especially when it comes to weight loss. If you skip meals, your body will fight hunger. When you eat again, it will store the fat it lacked. On the other hand, if you drink a lot of water, you will eliminate better and faster. In addition, water is “magical”, because while you drink water, you do not swallow sugary drinks…

In conclusion, it is therefore essential for the body to have a healthy lifestyle and to pass on the message to the poor. They will see a reduction in their overweight, without spending too much money either!
