Sodexo launches “The right balance of fats”

Almost all of us, whether in professional or personal life, use collective catering. But are we sure to eat balanced, not too fatty? SODEXO has decided to launch an innovative approach in all its restaurants in France, “the right balance of fats”.

SODEXO in a nutshell

SODEXO is a French service company, founded in Marseilles in 1966 by Mr BELLON Pierre, becoming the world leader by inventing the principle of collective catering . Over the years, the company has focused on:

  • The management of all on-site services such as catering or reception services for hospitals, schools, or even businesses.
  • Personal and home service.
  • As well as mobilization and loyalty programs for company employees through cards, checks, or public aid.

“The right balance of fats”

Concerned about the health and well-being of its consumers, SODEXO had already launched various nutritional programs such as “Salt control” in 2011 and “Sugar reduction” in 2013.

SODEXO does not wish to remove all the fat from its dishes, but rather to support its teams in a process of quality and quantity, even if it means diversifying the sources of fat intake according to cooking methods, in order to benefit the better nutritional qualities thereof.

SODEXO, for this, sets up sheets with simple culinary guidelines, specifying the fat and the dosage to be used for each dish. These sheets are intended for SODEXO teams on site. 2 repositories will be available:

  • Guideline 1: Seasoning appetizers
  • Guideline 2: Cooking and sauces.

This system will be put in place from June 2014, accompanied by an awareness program to facilitate the adaptation of its employees, by sending them information sheets, quizzes and an educational film.

SODEXO would also like to be able to encourage its consumers to know how to make the right choices of fats on a daily basis , particularly at home, thanks to advice provided on the internet via flash code.

Remember of course that we need fats in our diet, these provide us with vitamins, fatty acids, and are therefore essential for a healthy body, functioning at its best. They must be consumed, however, in reasonable quantities, to avoid the consequences of excessive consumption such as cardiovascular disease or obesity. So, like all things: consume in moderation.
