Last day of diabetes risk screening week
This year, the 4th edition of Diabetes Risk Screening Week takes place from June 6 to 13. Today is the last day to complete the 30-second online test . The target will be more particularly people unaware that they have diabetes.
Indeed, according to the Institut de Veille Sanitaire, 700,000 diabetics are unaware that they suffer from it (1) . The AFD (French Association of Diabetics) even speaks of a huge underestimation of the disease.
To raise public awareness of the importance of early screening, the French Federation of Diabetics has set up screening accessible on the internet and achievable in 30 seconds. With 400 new cases a day , diabetes continues its silent epidemic: today is the last day to perform this test.
Take the test
This test, accessible on the FFD website (2, link in the sources of the article) consists of 5 questions.
- The 1st concerns the age group to which one belongs.
With each answer checked, information on diabetes is displayed a little further down. - The 2nd question concerns our family heredity with regard to diabetes (do we know people in our family with diabetes, and if so, if they are parents, uncle, aunt, etc.).
- The 3rd question allows us to calculate our Body Mass Index (BMI), just as the test is possible on our website (for this, follow this link ). You are therefore asked to enter your height in centimeters, as well as your weight in kilograms. Once this data has been entered, your BMI is displayed.
- The next question deals with whether or not high blood sugar appeared in your last blood tests.
- Finally, the 5th and last question provides information on the frequency of physical and sporting activities: regularly, from time to time, or never.
Once the questionnaire is completed, the results of the risk of developing type 2 diabetes are displayed: low, moderate or high . These results are accompanied by advice to follow in the 3 cases. For example, if the risk of developing diabetes is low, it is recommended to maintain good lifestyle habits, to have a healthy and balanced diet and to practice physical activity.
The results can also be received by email, and a button allows you to offer the test to your friends. It is also possible to ask for more information about diabetes, healthy recipes and advice.
Only 30 seconds
Screening is important, and 30 seconds is nothing. With this test, the French Federation of Diabetics hopes to reach the widest possible population, and thus be able to intervene as soon as possible in the treatment of diabetes, a pathology, let us remember, affecting more than 4 million people in France .
