An application for diabetics awarded at the Lépine competition
The 2016 Lépine competition ended a few days ago, on May 7, 2016, during the Paris Fair. Among the many award-winning inventions, one particularly stands out. A web application for diabetic protocols invented by Mr MIRAMBEAU Benoît. His invention received the highest distinction , that of the President of the Republic Prize.
It was to help his mother with diabetes that Benoît Mirambeau wanted to invent this application. He realized on several occasions that his mother had difficulty understanding the protocols for treating his diabetes, and sometimes made mistakes, particularly in the doses of insulin injections, causing him additional stress.
What is the app?
The application for diabetic protocols is software where the doctor treating the diabetic enters several information such as dietary prescriptions, insulin levels and physical activity. Once these parameters have been recorded, the patient measures his blood sugar level as usual, and enters the data into the software. This will then inform the person about their condition, that is to say whether they are in hyper or hypoglycaemia, and will then tell them the dose of insulin to inject.
The application can be used on all devices with an internet connection such as mobile phones, computers, or digital tablets.
The application also sends alerts in the event of missing data or the presence of errors in the entries. Alerts can be sent by Mail or SMS and can even be geolocated .
Increasingly recognized e-Health
This web application can help diabetics in the management of their disease, and avoid sources of stress related to patients’ fear of making the wrong insulin dosage. Several health applications already exist on the market, but this one still received the famous Sèvres porcelain vase, a very high distinction.
It should be noted however that the application has not yet been approved, this will be the next step . It is therefore not yet available . In a world where almost all of us live connected, health applications are beginning to invade the market more and more, making us a little more responsible and involved in our health and that of others.
Diabetes being a global concern, the application for diabetes protocols would therefore be of great help in the prevention of the disease.
