Calculating your BMI according to Nick Trefethen

Please note, this calculation is not that of the BMI (Body Mass Index) as defined by the World Health Organization. This is a different measure, suggested by a math teacher. You can find more information about the “classic” BMI  on this page .

Fill in your height (in cm) as well as your sex and we will calculate your BMI weight according to Nick Trefethen’s formula.

YOUR RESULTS

Your BMI according to Nick Trefethen is awaiting calculation. Once calculated we will provide an interpretation

ORIGINS OF NICK TREFETHEN’S BMI & EXPLANATIONS

Professor Nick Trefethen of the University of Oxford believes  (1)  that the traditional formula for calculating body mass index is incorrect. He has developed what he considers to be a more accurate method. Its measurement is relatively recent ( 2013 ).

Indeed, according to this professor the formula should be the following:

1.3  ∗  weight kg  height )  2.5 1.3 ∗ weight (  kg )  /  ( height ( m 2.5  )

In order to obtain a more reliable BMI value, still according to him,  than the formula proposed by Adolphe Quételet  (inventor of the classic BMI)
