What is my body type?

How to find your morphotype?

It was established in the 1940s that each individual could belong to a morphotype. There are three categories of morphotype according to embryonic development. The theories have since been substantiated. No morphology is impossible to change as long as good practices are adopted.

What is a morphotype?

In the 1940s, an American psychologist named William Sheldon developed work on the human physical constitution. For this it is based on data related to embryology. By analyzing certain embryonic tissues, he was able to distinguish three types of morphology for all human beings. Each morphology was associated with several character traits.
To develop his work, Sheldon was particularly interested in three embryonic tissues responsible for the development of certain organs: the endoderm (responsible for developing the digestive system), the mesoderm (which stimulates the growth of muscles, the circulatory system and of the heart) and the ectoderm(responsible for the development of the brain and nervous system).

In his work, Sheldon also associated certain personality traits specific to each individual according to his morphology. William Sheldon’s theories are well known in the bodybuilding world. They can often help to adopt a particular diet or to follow a specific training.

The three silhouette categories

In publishing his theories, Dr. Sheldon put forward three body types for different individuals: ectomorph, mesomorph, and endomorph.

L’ectomorphe

This morphology corresponds to a subject who has a rather fine and slender figure with narrow shoulders. These people usually have a very fast metabolism that allows them to eat a certain amount of food without gaining weight.
An  ectomorph  is often associated with a rather introverted, sensitive personality , with rather developed artistic tastes. They tend to dislike crowds and withdraw into themselves in the face of annoyance.

And mesomorphs

This  body type  often has naturally developed muscles and a tendency to burn fat more easily than any other body type. This is often the perfect somatotype for most people looking to build muscle.
On the personality side, they are attributed a fairly energetic and lively temperament . They are considered courageous, but can also be bossy, sometimes aggressive and more inclined to take risks than others.

L’endomorphe

Shorter and stockier , an  endormorph  often has a greater tendency to develop a certain corpulence and to store fat. The muscles are not very present and the body is rather soft. It is often said that these people will have no trouble gaining muscle if they learn the proper exercises, but the fight against fat will be more complicated .
It is often said that endomorphs love luxury, comfort, and good food . Of a rather sociable and jovial temperament, they are often quite extroverted and make friends easily.

Advice for each somatotype category

This classification is obviously not carved in stone. At the end of the 1950s, Parnell took up some data from the work of Dr. Sheldon, followed by Heath and Carter in the mid-1960s. Their conclusions revealed that morphologies were not only decided during embryonic development. Indeed, it also relates to other important environmental factors. Among these we find social class, education, diet, growth, age, level of physical activity… Each individual is in fact a mixture of several morphotypes.  One sometimes dominating the other two.

The good news is that an endomorph considered rather prone to being overweight can quite develop the figure of their dreams, provided they adopt the right practices. For example, he should focus on cardio training first and increase the level of strength exercises as he goes. Food level, it is first necessary to banish saturated fats and refined sugars to hope to obtain a loss of fat.

In the case of ectomorphism , it is advisable to focus on activities that allow the development of musculature and to avoid cardiovascular exercises as much as possible. Workouts should be limited to three per week, and fairly intense , but brief. In terms of food, it is necessary to ensure that you have at least 5 or 6 food intakes per day.  In case of absence of results it is necessary to think of turning to food supplements.

For a predominantly mesomorphic person , the important thing is above all to maintain the body. The sessions must be regular , but of moderate intensity , with a lot of cardiovascular exercises. The diet should be as balanced as possible.
