Can you become diabetic by eating too much sugar?

Diabetes is a so-called civilizational disease that can be controlled and treated. It corresponds to a lack of insulin, the hormone that manages glycemic intake. The higher a food has a glycemic index, the more insulin the pancreas will produce. This disease therefore occurs when the body no longer knows how to regulate this glycemic intake(1). What is the role of sugar in this disease?

Is there a link between sugar consumption and disease?

Diabetes is anexcess of sugar in the blood, due to the fact that the body – and especially the pancreas – can no longer regulate this intake, and no longer produces enough insulin.
Eating too much sugar is not necessarily related to the onset of the disease. There aretwo types of diabetics, one of which is not related to a possible overconsumption of sugar, and the other is influenced above all by lifestyle and afamily predisposition. Naturally, by lifestyle, we mean diet and the practice of physical activity(2).

If anoverconsumption of sugarcan indeed lead to the onset of the disease, this food is not to be eliminated, let alone demonized. It is impossible to become diabetic by eating sugar, provided that thisconsumption is excessive and reasonable.

Does eating too much sugar increase the risk of having this disease?

Eating too much of one type of food is not recommended. Variation in dietis the best way to stay healthy and not aggravate diseases already present.
It is possible to become diabetic by eating too much sugar, indeed, but not just any type of diabetes. Since the two types of diabetes are very different and come from different criteria, sugar will not act – and will not influence – both.

Remember that fructose is sugar of plant origin. The normal and reasonable consumption of sugar is therefore not at issue. It is the fact of

What is overconsumption of sugar?

The general Daily calorie intakevaries between 1800 kcal (kilo calories) and 2000 kcal, depending on gender, physical activity and certain elements of life. Normally, the sugar consumption not to be exceeded is50g dailytag. Beyond that, it’s excess sugar. To clarify, it should be noted that the weight of a sugar varies between 4g and 6g, depending on its size.

Naturally, certain sugary foods can promote the onset of the disease, because they constitute High Glycemic Contributions and are, moreover, bad for the bodytag. Sodas, ready meals, desserts bought in supermarkets…Some foods are sweet without excesstag. This is the case in bakeries, where it is possible to request preparations with a limited sugar content.
Natural sugar is the best to consume, in addition to being the most useful to the body. Products and foods with a high glycemic content – especially added sugars – should be avoided or severely limited.

To limit your sugar consumption, consider limiting the purchase of products with a high glycemic index , especially if they are of poor quality (4): sodas, cakes, etc. Prefernatural and organic products, with natural sugars. You can also replace certain foods, swap ice cream for sorbets; fruit juices against organic fruit… You can also, if you want something sweet, make your own desserts with healthier, natural and less sweet products.
Avoid sweeteners which, although more “light”, remain sugar and can make you want to consume it.
