Diabetes LAB: when the diabetic participates in innovation

Innovation in the field of diabetes has been booming for several years: new technologies, new applications… But the diabetic, the main interested party , is never consulted and never integrated into the design and implementation of these solutions.

Faced with this problem, the French Federation of Diabetics has decided to set up a program called Diabetes LAB (1) to finally integrate diabetic patients in the design of innovations intended for them.

Detailed explanations

Thanks to this program, patients can finally participate, test and give their opinion on applications helping to monitor and treat diabetes. Concretely, Diabetes LAB takes into account the demands and expectations of diabetics and sets up applications or services in line with these expectations. Patient volunteers can then test these new services and give their opinion on the usefulness and practice of these new services. Diabetes LAB then designs applications and services for diabetic diseases in line with their expectations and real needs. Thus, if the telephone application fully corresponds to the criteria required by patients, it is put on the market and benefits from the label of the French Federation of Diabetics, thus giving it a certain guarantee and a guarantee of serious usefulness for the patient.

The French Federation of Diabetics wishes to involve many players in the implementation and proper development of this new concept. It therefore calls for the intervention, of course, of patients, the main actors, but also of health professionals serving as relays with patients, and also of industrialists and health authorities, designers of future applications, ultimately allowing the perfect design of these new services.

Program objectives

The goal of all this is, of course, to allow diabetic patients to have monitoring and applications that bring them real benefit and help them on a daily basis in their pathology. Patients will therefore feel more integrated in their illness. The experience of relatives is also appreciated in the design and evaluation of applications. The French Federation of Diabetics hope to obtain 13 times more users by 2017 (2) .

The Federation therefore calls for a great mobilization , considering that the participation of the main actors of the disease, in priority the patient himself, is the solution for the best daily follow-up, thus bringing better results in the various treatments.
