Eat spicy to help slim down and live longer
That’s it, it’s already back to school, and idleness unfortunately gives way to the madness of everyday life. And in addition, with all the good dishes of the summer (ice cream, grills, fried foods …) you have gained weight? What if the solution wasin chili?
A small but powerful fruit
Yes, yes, chili. This very small but so powerful fruit, andwith many virtues. This is demonstrated by a recent study published last month in the British Medical Journal(1). As well as another study published in the journal PLOS ONE(2). 2 very distinct studies, but putting at the center of the table the main element: chili.
The studies in question
In the 1st study, we discover that chili pepper is a real fountain of youth. Researchers have studied and followed for several years 500 million Chinese (large consumers of chili) to observe the consequences of such consumption. It found that people who consume chili pepper daily have a 14% lower chance of mortality. The researchers point out that their analysis “showedan inverse correlationbetween spicy food consumption and overall mortality as well as with certain causes of death (cancer, coronary heart disease and respiratory disease)”. Of course, this study is only an observation, but it already gives us a little idea about the “magical” powers of this small fruit, because the pepper is indeed a fruit!
And the powers of chili pepper don’t stop there. The second study (published in PLOS ONE) shows that the active ingredient in chili, also called capsaicin, would allow the receptors present in our stomach (often disrupted by a high-fat diet), to inform our brain more quickly of the feeling of satiety, and would also burn fat. A great help therefore in the treatment against obesity. The pepper would also be creditedwith anti-inflammatory and anti-cancerproperties.
Studies are currently underway to develop appetite suppressant capsules based on capsaicin, which can help with weight loss. For this, it is necessary above all, for researchers, to understand the mechanism of this substance on the nerves of our stomach.
Note that these effects are not to be attributed to all kinds of chili. They were mainly observed forvery hot peppers.
So, what are you waiting for? It’s high time to spice up your life!
