Eating properly allows a better distribution of fat
On this pathology that is obesity, we already know thateating a balanceddiet allows you to maintain optimal health, stabilize your body weight and optimize your physical efforts. In addition to this, a recent scientific study(1) validates a new fact established by American researchers: the fat of our body is distributed more or less correctlyaccording to the nutritional quality of the food we absorb.
Obesity is not just a matter of genetics
Bad eating habits cause excess weight, trigger long-term chronic diseases, tire the heart, develop our fat cells, which are adipocytes, in the belly in men and glutes in women. Other factors such as gender, ethnicity, physical activity and diet also influence overweight.
It is a study across the Atlantic that reveals that the distribution in the body of fat mass is associated with the nutritional quality of our food. MESA researchers(2) are conducting this study conducted among four ethnic groups: Hispanic, Caucasian, African and Chinese-American.
Published in the journal “Nutrition, Metabolism and Cardiovascular Diseases”, the steps carried out by the MESA are detailed and specified. Fat measurements concern, stricto sensu, intra-abdominal visceral fat, abdominal subcutaneous fat, liver fat (liver) and pericardial fat (heart).
The content of the experiment
The researchers want to validate with statistical and numerical data the fact that a healthy diet is beneficial to good health. A correct nutritional quality impacts on body weight, we already knew it. What scientists give us to better understand is that a balanced diet prevents the accumulation of abdominal, hepatic and cardiac body fat, all of which are dangerous to health.
Thus, keeping the line is not only a question of aesthetics. Overweight is detrimental to the proper functioning of the body. Indeed, a dysfunction in the relationship “nutritional quality / favorable distribution of fats” causesepigenetic alteration. The microbiota is disrupted by excessive oxidation of the internal organic environment and adipose tissue becomes sensitive, inflammatory.
Measured and quantified nutritional quality
To reach all these findings, American scientists measured the food quality of the “human guinea pigs” participating in the study. Those who consumed fruits, vegetables, fish, legumes, seeds, nuts and yogurt, while limiting the intake of alcohol, red meats, processed products and sugary drinks, scored better than other participants. In this way, the researchers specify that a higher consumption of fruits, vegetables, fish and legumes in combination with a limited intake of red meats, industrialized products and sugary drinks give a favorable distribution to adipose tissue. The opposite triggers obesity withan accumulation of intra-abdominal, hepatic and pericardial fat.
Apart from a good distribution of fat in the body, individuals who eat properly weigh on average five kilos less and, if they accumulate fat, it is just a normal fat deposit that is not associated, in any case, with a cardio-metabolic risk.
Even though the researchers would have contented themselves with this information, which encourages them to pay attention to their diet, the study reveals, in highlight, that individuals who benefit from an annual income of more than 100,000 dollars with at least a baccalaureate + 4 have better food quality than the others. Thus, it is clear that a low socio-economic status has an impact on the relationship “food habits / distribution of adipose tissue”.
