Fat attracts us all: but why?

We like to eat fat, yes, but we shouldn’t go to extremes either. It is still bad for health. Despite the gluttony that “tans” us, you have to know how to stay reasonable ! American researchers (1) have tried to find out what could be so tempting in this matter, knowing that even if we are satisfied, we will not hesitate to “devour” an additional fatty dish.

Advertising, a temptation factor

You have just finished your meal and you smell a good smell of fries or grilled chicken. What is your reflex? The one of you not to resist.

You won’t necessarily devour the dish in its entirety but, despite everything, you touch it anyway. At this point, the body no longer makes the difference between satiety and pleasure. You eat to eat, you devour to satisfy a craving. This is called “hedonistic obesity”, which is obesity related to the joy of eating.

We all know that it’s the brain that gives the order to eat and that your stomach tugs at you if you run out of food. The ad shows you mouth-watering foods that are sweet, fatty, and full of preservatives. So you can’t say no, as the composition and presentation of these appeal to you. You “mess up” your brain signals, causing unnecessary overeating and, of course, rapid weight gain.

Hunger regulation is key

The brain is equipped with insulin signals. These are present to convey this satiety that is sometimes difficult to control. Experiments have therefore been carried out in animals, more precisely rodents. When these “alarms” were removed in these mammals, the change in behavior was drastic. The rodents began to eat without stopping . We had the impression that they were becoming bulimic.

They threw themselves in particular on fatty foods, to the detriment of their daily diet which was much healthier. Their weight has increased considerably. For humans, the result is the same. If we throw our system out of whack by overeating fatty foods, then we tend to crave something when those fats are gone. It is therefore absolutely necessary to take a correct, nutritious food and full of benefits for the body.

On the one hand, we will feel revived, because there will be no more weight gain (quite the contrary!), on the other hand because the food will make its merry way through our organism and the feeling of satiety will come back naturally .
