Health: relieving arthritis with yoga

It is quite legitimate to look for solutions to regain some or all of your well-being when you suffer from arthritis. Drugs are there for that, but why not try to practicephysical activity to relievethis discomfort that invades us. Yoga is one of the sports that reduces pain due to this pathology.

An experience that speaks for itself

At present, millions of French people suffer from arthritis. Fingers swell and deflate “for no apparent reason”, joints are painful and could almost appear rusty. To overcome this problem, doctors recommend physiotherapy sessions, but a recent study would also prove that a few regular yoga exercises to be just as effective. The experiment that confirms this hypothesistook place over eight weeks, during which 75 people volunteered.

They were all adults and suffered from rheumatoid arthritis and osteoarthritis. Two groups were formed, one practicing three yoga sessions a week, the other zero. When the time was over, researchers at Johns Hopkins Medical University made the final diagnosis, without even knowing who had yoga and who hadn’t. What did they discover?

Clear improvements clearly visible

While these researchers had found that the physical and mental condition of the volunteer patients was not good, they “inspected” them after the experiment. During the exercises, the dog’s posture was worked, that of the triangle too, without forgetting the position of the lotus. As a result, those who have practiced them during the eight weeks feel better, physically and morally. A 20% decrease in their pain was visible, the mind had gone back into the positive. Their energy was now present. It is certain that their pathology will never disappear, but why not give yourself a little help to fix things? Nine months later, these “patients” were still talking about improvements.

Yoga is indeed a benefit that helps to overcome arthritis. Although it is an effective and safe way, it should not be practiced at any time, or with anyone. A consultation with your doctor is strongly recommended beforehand and calling on a professional to follow good sessions is essential. Respect for everyone’s limits, as well as personalized support is a plus in yoga sessions. Be careful to start with gentle yoga. The opposite could do more damage than good!
