Launch of the INCA3 study by the national food safety agency

ANSES ( National Agency for Health Safety, Food, Environment, Work ) produces a very interesting study every 8 years, the theme of which is the National Individual Study of Food Consumption INCA ).

After carrying out two INCA studies (the first published in 1999, and the second in 2007), ANSES is starting its third study this year. Indeed, according to ANSES, “ eating behaviors are changing rapidly ”, hence the need to update data regularly.

The objective of the study is to provide ” scientific arguments to continue, strengthen or even modify France’s nutritional and food policy “, according to ANSES.

Concretely, it is a question of investigating directly on the ground.

How is it going?

472 municipalities take part in this study (they are spread over the entire metropolitan area).

4,000 households identified by INSEE were selected within these municipalities. In each of these households, a person will be chosen at random (this can be an adult but also a child). At the end of this selection, there will be 2,000 adult participants (from 18 to 79 years old), and 2,000 children and teenagers participants (from 0 to 17 years old).

The individuals thus selected must:

  • Answer the questions of a survey manager who will visit them
  • Describe, three times, their food consumption during a whole day. These 3 days of eating habits will be collected over 3 weeks.
  • During telephone interviews answer, online or on paper, additional questions

The selected person will in return have access to a free food assessment at the end of the study

Participation is entirely voluntary, so it is possible to oppose it if you have been selected and you do not want data to be collected about you (you can also withdraw from the study at any time, even if you have already started answering some questions).
