New Zealand immigrant may be deported due to obesity
Making headlines for several days (especially at the end of July), we wanted to relay this news item on CalculateYoursBMI.
As the title of the article indicates, this is an individual, an immigrant, whom the Australian State wishes to deport. Albert Buithenhuis, who has lived in New Zealand since 2007 with his wife Marthie, suffers from a serious obesity problem. When he arrived he already weighed 160 kilos.
Albert and his wife are employed as a chef and waitress in a restaurant, and have never had any problems related to Albert’s weight. However, today the couple found themselves in a delicate situation because the immigration services notified them on May 1, 2013, that their (work) visas would not be renewed and that they were therefore going to be expelled from the territory. However, Albert now weighs almost 130 kilos, 30 kilos less than when he arrived! Moreover, the couple moved to New Zealand almost 6 years ago.
The case was rumored especially at the end of last month. The couple’s Facebook page, created on July 26, may have something to do with it. It is available at the following address: https://www.facebook.com/albertandmarthie .
According to official sources, the reason for this expulsion is none other than the problem of obesity from which Albert suffers and which, according to the government, would generate (or could generate, in the future) excessive costs in terms of health and social protection. , which the latter would not be prepared to support. This decision, which may seem shocking and totally discriminatory, is nevertheless part of the new policy for the fight against obesity in force in the country which is not spared by obesity problems.
At present, the couple is still in New Zealand (in Auckland, with Albert’s sister) and they continue to fight against the government.
Since August 12, 2013, the couple has launched, via their Facebook page, a request for donations to help them. The page currently has 346 likes.
