Runtastic Orbit: new well-being connected bracelet

It was yesterday that the company Runtastic presented its new object: a connected bracelet that allows you to monitor all your different daily activities day and night. Whether it’s your physical activities, sports, your sleep, etc.

The bracelet is then linked to an application which helps you to make a clear assessment and which allows you to encourage you to improve your physical condition .

Runtastic is already specialized in the development of an entire ecosystem that revolves around well-being and physical fitness. They provide services, accessories, and a whole range of mobile applications with the aim of encouraging individuals to improve their physical condition.

The range has now expanded through the arrival of this connected bracelet, which competes directly with the FuelBand SE (from Nike) or the miCoach Fit Smart (from Adidas).

We must be clear : the bracelet is not a revolution in itself and seems to be positioned at the level of the competition. However, this kind of objects is likely to be more and more present in our near future, and therefore deserves to be interested in them.

The principle

The bracelet is connected 24/24. It can be placed in different places on the body: at the level of the wrist of course but not only (at the level of the belt for example). Once the bracelet is in place and active, it then records what you do :

  • Distance traveled
  • Number of steps
  • Minutes actives
  • Sleep cycles and duration
  • Number of calories consumed
  • Etc.

All this is collected and processed in an application called Runtastic Me , which is available on Android and iPhones (from 4S). This app is free. With this application you will be able to make various settings (by entering your weight, your height, etc.) which will allow Runtastic Me to be even more accurate in its estimates.

Once the bracelet has been paid for (see end of article for the price), there is no monthly subscription. Which is significant compared to a Biody Balance for example.

Waterproof up to 100 meters, the company plays the sport and well-being card . However, the product is intended for all people and all ages. It is possible to set daily objectives (such as a certain number of steps to achieve or a certain number of minutes of activity).

The Runtastic Orbit is recharged on a simple USB socket, and can last 5 to 7 days when the battery is full according to the user manual.

The fun side

It is really the playful aspect of the thing which can make it possible to be reconciled with certain efforts of daily life, such as for example the stairs rather than the escalator.

The concept of objectives is extremely interesting. For example, by setting a goal of 10,000 steps in a day, then the bracelet will show you your progress little by little (in percentage). If you reach the goal, a cup icon will appear, which is quite rewarding! 10,000 steps is what the World Health Organization recommends, for example, over a day. It is clear that it is easier to place yourself on such a scale when you have such a bracelet.

Many applications on smartphones can also play the role of pedometer (for free), and there would therefore be no need to pay for the purchase of such a bracelet. Yes, but the fact that this bracelet is connected to the Runtastic Me application (particularly well done) is an asset for the company. In addition to that, when jogging, the bracelet seems less sensitive to shocks than a smartphone.

Price and availability date

The cost is €119.99 but shipments will only be made from August 11th . However, it is possible to pre-order the item today on the platform on the brand’s official website: https://www.runtastic.com/shop/en/runtastic-orbit

Without it really being a revolution, this new connected bracelet has a great springboard : all the different mobile applications that Runtastic has already created. Indeed, the company now has 85 million members and 140,000 daily downloads (all applications combined). In Google Play the company offers nearly 23 different applications, all related to fitness and well-being.
