The Fricker diet set up by Doctor Jacques Fricker , is a dietary program designed to lose weight. The nutritionist presents his slimming method in “Eating well to be on top” which was published in 2002. He spent many years of research at INSERM, he is an expert at AFSSA.
His diet is special: it consists of 3 phases that are really different from each other. The first phase, known as TGV , is of particular interest to people who want to lose weight. In this first phase, proteins play an extremely important role, but the phase is binding. The second phase is part of a stabilization process, and finally the last stage of the regime seems healthier since the prohibitions disappear.
Doctor Jacques Fricker has a website (which we present to you through this file) which allows you to register for an online program in order to follow your diet correctly (which he has also presented in several books).
THE PRINCIPLES OF THE DIET
The Doctor explains in his book how his diet breaks down:
- A first phase at ” high speed “, nicknamed TGV, which appeals to many because it promises to lose weight quickly by combining the pleasure of eating and that of losing weight quickly. Lasting up to 8 weeks, the promise is to lose 1 to 2.5 kilograms (depending on the person).
- A second phase called ” stabilization ” where certain foods that were previously prohibited are now reintroduced into the diet
- A third phase called ” full form “, in reference to the title of his book ” Eating well to be on top ” (2) .
According to Dr. Fricker, his diet would offer a diet that prevents and avoids cardiovascular disease.
He also warns against commercial products that attract the consumer by selling nutritional qualities that are not always present. However, Doctor Jacques Fricker is also part of a commercial approach since his work was put on sale in 2012, and his website ( http://www.maigrir-avec-jacques-fricker.fr/ ) does not only delivers advice that is paid for.
First phase: TGV
The phase is particularly restrictive, and very (too) low in calories. According to ANSES, the daily caloric intake during the TGV phase is 940 kcal. Against about 2000 kcal recommended by health authorities (for sedentary people).
The principle is to limit its consumption to meat, fish and vegetables are authorized. Very little fat, dairy or fruit is allowed. Everything else is simply prohibited . Doctor Fricker therefore promises weight loss that combines the pleasure of eating, but these strong prohibitions are a brake on the pleasure of eating.
Second phase: stabilization
It is now possible to reintroduce certain starchy foods as well as more fruit (but only at the rate of one fruit per day).
Third phase: full form
There is no longer any prohibition, but simply a good way to eat as well as a healthy lifestyle, which the Doctor shares through his book (or through his website).
The method may seem attractive, but the first two phases are restrictive. At the end of these first two phases (after a few months), the diet then makes it possible to move towards a more balanced diet, without major deprivation. The Doctor advocates the conviviality of meals and strongly advises sharing this moment, positive points which also place this diet under a psychological aspect (often forgotten in other methods).
The first two phases will be more difficult than the last phase
ADVANTAGES
The reasonable duration of the treatment will make the patient get used to this new way of eating without locking himself in completely. The nutritionist has developed a method that is supposed to target weight loss at the level of fat and not at the level of muscle mass.
DISADVANTAGES
The prohibition of slow sugars in the slimming process can be harmful and creates deficiencies. Slow sugars are essential for the proper functioning of the body. They provide energy to the body which ensures its vitality and allows physical effort to be made without getting tired. This diet does not offer the possibility, from the outset, to adopt eating habits. But it nevertheless offers the possibility of knowing the foods and analyzing commercial products. There is a risk of regaining the pounds lost after stopping the diet.
Many people limit themselves to applying Doctor Fricker’s TGV program . However, his diet is not composed of this single step. There are also other versions, in his book, like the “bodybuilding method”. These methods complement the diet you will follow to coordinate physical activity and weight loss.
ORIGINS OF THE REGIME
Doctor Fricker’s work, ” Eating well to be on top ” was published by Odile Jacob in October 2002 (2) .
ANSES’S OPINION
The opinion of ANSES is the opinion of the French health security agency. This notice should be read with caution and is important. Beyond 20% difference compared to ANSES recommendations, the difference is on a red background, otherwise it is on a green background.
In its Request No. 2009-SA-0099 , ANSES breaks down the nutritional intake of the Fricker diet according to the 3 phases. For easier reading, we calculated the average of each of these 3 phases (Fricker1, Fricker2, Fricker3) before reporting the values in the table below.

Difficult to fully endorse this diet. Indeed, Doctor Fricker offers some interesting concepts, and considers food as a real moment of social life, which should be a pleasure. But in fact the first two phases of his diet are so restrictive that it will not always be easy to combine pleasure and weight loss, with health effects that may not be insignificant.
