The Hollywood diet (or fruit cure)

The Hollywood diet, also called the ”  fruit diet  ” or ”  fruit cure  ” or even ” grapefruit diet  ” is based on an intensive and  almost exclusive consumption of fruit , for a period of seven to ten days.

Why favor fruit consumption? Fruits are very low in calories and contain no fat. Rich in fiber, the impression of satiety is assured, and body fats are, according to those who promote this diet, quickly burned. The diet advocates in particular the consumption of  grapefruit  would help the body to burn fat. It is a diet in the ”  low-carb ” category which is extremely deficient in behavior. This file evokes the original diet, which was then modeled to give rise to variants and even to a “  new Hollywood diet  ” (which we will discuss in another file).

THE PRINCIPLES OF THE DIET

The Hollywood diet does not impose any limit in terms of quantity. On the other hand , the limitations on food are drastic since in addition to fruit, it is only possible to consume foods rich in protein and fat, such as meat and eggs. A very limited diet therefore. Tea and coffee are possible, but without sugar.

It is also advisable to respect a period of two hours between the absorption of two fruits. Once the ten-day period has passed, it is important to reaccustom the body to a balanced diet, gradually reintroducing vegetables, starchy foods, proteins, dairy products and fats.

The Hollywood diet boasts of being able to lose 4.5 kilograms in 10 days through a slogan “10 days – 10 pounds”  (10 pounds representing approximately 4.5 kilograms).

ADVANTAGES

The Hollywood diet, based solely on the consumption of fruit, without any quantity restrictions, has the advantage of simplicity . But that is surely the only advantage! Weight loss is of course present, but this is nothing short of an achievement since the diet is extremely low calorie (less than 1000 kcal per day).

DISADVANTAGES

The disadvantages of this diet are numerous . The approval of a doctor is necessary before any decision is made. First of all, you should know that fruits are very rich in fiber, and that intensive consumption of the latter is not good for the intestines and risks damaging them (risk of irritation).

In addition, consuming only fruit is obviously not a balanced diet, and the body is at high risk of suffering from many deficiencies in proteins, lipids, calcium and vitamins. The body is therefore in a total situation of undernutrition which can be  very dangerous for health . The patient is at high risk of suffering from a lack of energy , and muscle wasting . In addition, the diet only lasts 10 days: there is no chance of being able to hope to adopt good eating habits and/or change one’s diet in a sustainable way.

It is a diet that should in no case be spread over time. Considered as a real fast , this method should not be considered without medical advice : that of your general practitioner for example. In the medium term as well as in the long term, this diet is not effective.

ORIGINS OF THE REGIME

As its name suggests, the Hollywood diet is a diet that was created in the United States. Originally, it was invented in order to make certain actresses lose weight quickly, for the need of a shoot. It appeared in the 1980s. Today, its notoriety has fallen sharply, and  its effectiveness has been called into question .

Our rating is severe, but there is not much to hope for from this diet, other than seriously damaged health and weight loss that will not be lasting. This diet is strongly discouraged . It is necessary to consult your doctor before undertaking any start of this type of diet.
