The Kousmine regime

Catherine Kousmine was a Russian Doctor, who devoted a large part of her life to cancer research. She was convinced that food had direct consequences on health in general.

After being able to cure her first cancer patient with just a dietary modification,  she is convinced  that by working on her research in food, she is on the right track.

It was as a result of this research that the Kousmine diet (also called the Kousmine method) was born, and the famous  Budwig cream  which, according to Catherine Kousmine, is a cream with multiple virtues. As part of the Kousmine diet, a daily teaspoon of this cream is recommended.

The doctor’s method is intended to be healthy, and was not necessarily intended, originally, to lose weight.

THE PRINCIPLES OF THE DIET

Dr. Kousmine has established 5 main principles that she will call the 5 pillars of her diet:

  • Adopt a  healthy diet  : using a supplement of whole grains, vegetable oils rich in unsaturated fatty acids and eliminating animal proteins, sugar, animal fats.
  • Adopt a supplement of trace elements and  vitamins .
  • Adopt  intestinal hygiene  : enemas of the intestine having the effect of detoxifying the body.
  • The acid-base balance . Fight against abnormal acidification of the body: by daily intake of alkaline citrates regulating tissue acidification.
  • Immunomodulation (more commonly known as vaccine  cure): this involves deflecting antibodies, a gentle technique considered by Dr. Kousmine to be effective for the treatment of certain respiratory and rheumatic diseases.

The Doctor also recommends feeding exclusively, in the morning, with Budwig cream. A cream that she invented herself and whose recipe is presented to you below.

Concerning the other meals (lunch and dinner), the method is based on a drastic reduction (even a limitation in certain cases) of the quantities of salt, meat, milk, eggs, cheese, butter, chocolate, and fruit sugar (without these different foods being prohibited). On the other hand, aspartame is totally prohibited, in the same way as alcohol. Food should be cooked gently (steamed if possible).

Budwig Cream Recipe

Once the ingredients are combined, all you need to do is:

  • Cream the cottage cheese and walnut oil
  • Add all the other ingredients, whisking continuously (or mixing for ease)

This cream is also known as  Kousmine breakfast . The cream is named after Johanna Budwig, a pharmacist who had worked extensively in the field of oils. This cream has helped a lot in the promotion of his method, it is a modified version of the “muesli” found in Switzerland.

ADVANTAGES

It is a diet that can really challenge bad eating habits considered dangerous to health.

The Kousmine diet is in favor of a nutritional balance, which is healthy for health, but it should be noted that this diet nevertheless includes some food restrictions ( even if there are few prohibited foods, some rather drastic limitations exist ).

Concerning the more technical aspect of the diet, the course of vaccines or the hygiene of the intestinal flora: most individuals may be put off, or even have difficulty in practicing these steps in particular. However, we note that many alternative medicines are now turning to these therapies, which seems to be a guarantee of good confidence.

The Kousmine diet, if properly followed, has only a small impact on weight loss, and for good reason: it is a diet that is basically intended to curb bad eating habits in order to regain a healthy balance. healthy eating for health (see  diet origins section ).

DISADVANTAGES

It is a diet that has been  criticized by naturopaths  who consider Budwig cream to be very indigestible. They even mentioned the term “  digestive bomb  ”. This cream is made only from raw foods and some people cannot digest it. Just as, in recent years, intolerances to milk have multiplied.

If we can replace animal milk products with soy milk, it is true that times have changed and so have food intolerances. Unfortunately, food allergies are on the rise.

ORIGINS OF THE REGIME

Catherine Kousmine was born in the USSR in 1904. In 1916, her family’s property was confiscated and everyone moved to Switzerland. Dr. Kousmine then began his career as a pediatrician.

From the 1940s, there were more and more people with cancer; she then decided to devote her research to the fight against this disease. More particularly, she is convinced that food has direct consequences on health. She manages to cure her first cancer patient with a change in her diet and vitamins. This patient, however, only had a life expectancy of 2 years when he was entrusted. There will be no further relapses thereafter. This example will prove to Dr. Kousmine that she is on the right track.

It was then that she invented the famous Budwig cream. Based on this acquired knowledge, she adapts the muesli she takes for breakfast. She adds linseed oil, fresh fruit, lemon juice, oilseeds: Budwing cream becomes famous and goes around the world for its benefits, Doctor Kousmine seeks to cure chronic diseases by feed; according to her, food is clearly a direct and preponderant factor.

The Kousmine diet is not a private diet in itself, but it has very limiting sides, which can put off. In this the negative effects on health are quite reduced, according to Doctor Kousmine the method was also designed to improve the standard of living . More than a diet intended to lose weight, it is a lifestyle that Doctor Kousmine seeks to share. In this respect, the application of the method does not generally pose a problem.

Explanation of the attribution of the mark:
»  Nutrition aspect  :  -10 points  for the harmful effects of the diet
»  Corpulence aspect  :  -25 points  for the expectation of beneficial effects on the corpulence in the long term
