Will pills soon replace physical activity?
Practicing a sports activity helps to fight against overweight. However, it requires effort, both physically and mentally. Not all people, obese or not, are ready to deploy a whole arsenal of goodwill and untimely sweating. Thus, even if sport remains essential for weight loss, laboratories, which are never behind, are about to update a new “miracle pill”.
Goal: Be ready for summer 2015
To lose a few pounds before the summer period there are traditional methods such as the practice of so-called aerobic sports or the implementation of smart and adapted diets …
Already, a few months before the summer, we want toexpose a body that is as thin and muscular as possible. However, we are not all in the same boat. Between two to three kilos to lose or between twenty or thirty, the efforts required are not at all the same.
In terms of weight loss, the new and latest trend is towards the easy and “without constraint”, that everything is pleasure to live. To help us achieve this, the laboratories decided to tackle two of the scourges that have plagued the world for more than ten years: junk food and overweight.
A solution or a simple commercial action?
What could be more problematic than a wish to lose pounds, sometimes quite consistently? Even by dint of will and pugnacity, there are situations wherenothing helps. This is why researchers at the Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) decided to tackle the problem head on(1). They identified molecules that turn bad so-called white fat into brown fat. The first is responsible for overweight, cardiovascular diseases, type II diabetes, etc. while the second is a “good fat” because they oxidize fatty acids by generating heat and kilocalories.
This is a bit what offers an intensive and energetic sports session but in a “lazy” version.
Concrete explanations
In fact, it isthe proportion of brown fatsin a person’s body that will determine their ability to eat more or less food without gaining weight. The body of the thinnest therefore has more brown fat than the others.
The researcher in charge of the study, Chad Cowan of HSCI, explains, in essence, that the molecules contained in these “miracle pills” are involved in the immune defense system. The latter is therefore specifically targeted and more particularly the inflammatory response that moderates thanks to one of the compounds already known in rheumatoid arthritis: the JAK inhibitor.
This discovery is, for now, at an experimental stage and these studies need to be validated by others to ensure long-term safety and efficacy for all.
In order to guard against possible abuses, why not consider these pills as an alternative to starting weight loss?
The good use would be not to fall into excessand the ease of a regular and continuous intake of this kind of medicine which, if you think about it, can only be harmful. Conversely, practicing a sport does not only allow a drop in excess weight. Remember that it regulates our tensions, our state of stress by promoting the secretion of hormones and various substances. Thus, it would be a question of not confusing everything and keeping in mind that nothing beats a healthy and balanced life to maintain your figure.
