You should eat more vegetables and fruits
“ Eating five fruits and vegetables a day ” is one of the nine recommendations of the National Nutrition and Health Program. It is clear that the French adhere only little to this recommendation. However, plants, which contain water, fiber, minerals, vitamins, antioxidants, deserve a special place on our plates . They facilitate weight loss and bring a feeling of satiety to the body.
More than dietary principles
You should know that garlic has real benefits on the cardiovascular system, crucifers slow down cell aging, red fruits are antioxidants and also fight against cellular age, spinach, tomato have anti-cancer virtues…
Dr Laurent Chevallier, attached to the University Hospital Center of Montpellier, is the doctor in charge of the food commission of the Environment and Health Network (RES).
He reminds us that the slogan consume five fruits and vegetables a day should not be applied literally. Five is just one number among many since, ideally, you should even eat seven vegetables a day.
In fact, this recommendation serves more to sensitize the public on the importance of eating colored with red, green, purple, orange… Only fruits and vegetables provide these essential elements for intestinal transit and balance of body and mind.
Prioritize seasonal products
There is no point in eating vegetables and fruits that are not in season . Nature is well made and gives us what we need when we need it. Winter vegetables are hearty and are used to make soups. Summer fruits contain antioxidants that help us fight against free radicals from our long summer days…
It is important to vary our diet but for all that it is just as important to respect the natural rhythm of nature which, let us remember, is also ours. Thus, it is better to feed in less quantity but in higher quality. The wallet will not suffer and the state of health will be optimized.
Take into account your instincts
We have a personal biorhythm and sometimes even intolerances that we must take into account. It is necessary to integrate vegetables and fruits in the diet according to these imperatives. Thus, some do not eat their fruit at the end of the meal because their stomach cannot support it and have fruit meals separately during the day. For others, it’s raw vegetables that their intestines can’t handle.
You have to “walk on instinct” and listen to your nutritional feelings.
At this point, it is important to emphasize that the WHO considers the vegetarian diet to be beneficial and life-saving for health. Isn’t this a hot topic with the debate on this way of eating in our school canteens?
More protective plants
An experiment was conducted in this direction and revealed that the risk of death is reduced by almost 15% by consuming two or three servings of vegetables a day. It even drops to 42% with a consumption of seven vegetables and fruits during the day. Thus, 400 grams of vegetables are an ideal ration. This study published in the “Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health” agrees with the recommendations of the PNNS.
And because our plants contain more and more pesticides, according to Dr. Chevallier, the PNNS should mention them in its campaigns. If organic carries so many votes, it’s probably not for nothing!
